Obama administration appeals immigration ruling to Supreme Court
He said that lower court ruling “will force millions of people-who are not removal priorities under criteria the court conceded are valid, and who are parents of USA citizens and permanent residents-to continue to work off the books, without the option of lawful employment to provide for their families”. The immigrant from Mexico, who’s been in the US for more than a decade, would qualify for the DAPA program because one of her three children is a USA citizen. Latino Democratic politicians also urged the Supreme Court to not push a decision on the program to next year’s term.

If the high court were to rule for the administration in June, the decision would allow the “deferred action” order to go into effect in the final months of the Obama administration. “It’s a day of reckoning for them”.
“A Syrian child is not going to have an intel record, but precisely for that reason, we believe that this is not the pool of individuals who are most likely to be ISIL operatives”, Rhodes said, using an acronym for the Islamic State group. “The worst thing you could have is people being in the shadows for the wrong reasons”. These actions are improving accountability in our immigration system, strengthening our national security and our economy, and building on our past efforts to enforce immigration laws with common sense and compassion. Even GOP presidential candidates Sen.
The legal challenge to the action was made by 26 Republican-governed states, led by Texas, which say Obama has overstepped his powers by working around Congress. At demonstrations in several cities throughout the week, they continued to pressure the Obama administration to unilaterally soften the deportation system in the face of congressional inaction. This means that authorities will no longer have to deport all illegal immigrants. The quick filing of an appeal on the heels of the Fifth Circuit ruling will allow briefs from both sides to be filed in time for the court to possibly act on the case early next year.
Last November 20, Obama took executive action after Congress failed to pass an immigration reform bill. They held a press conference outside the Los Angles City Hall, along with other local groups, to highlight testimonies of undocumented immigrants who would benefit from the deportation relief programs that Obama announced as part of his executive actions on immigration previous year. PEP is a common sense, more effective program that works with local law enforcement and communities to tailor the program to local jurisdictions needs in order to keep communities safe, while preserving community trust.
If the Supreme Court does not take up the case before then, it is sure to become a major point of contention during the election campaign.
