Work Chat: Messenger-Type App for Facebook at Work

Facebook at Work will be a major entry by the social networking company into the crowded space of business collaboration. Rather than showing off pictures of the latest vacation or keeping tabs on old friends, Facebook at Work aims to put its services and features to use in the office allowing members of a company to easily and efficiently connect and collaborate online.

While messaging has already been built inside of Facebook at Work app, a standalone app is being pushed out as it is said to be more capable. While other products have had time to mature, Facebook is counting on the familiarity that practically every person on the planet already has with their social network.

This Facebook at Work and Work Chat service looks similar to Facebook and Messenger apps, except that it is restricted within your company. The platform for companies was launched in January this year as a closed beta, and the plan was to offer a free version by the end of 2015. Among the most popular we can find WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, Signal, BBM, Snapchat, Line, Hangouts and Groupme.

Of course, you’ll need a Facebook at Work account to use the app, which means your organization will need to have signed up for the service. It is the same with Facebook Messenger, where in order to chat you need a Facebook account.

The “Work Chat” application is available on Google Play store and according to the company, the iOS version is in the works. TechCrunch has reported that the company is now working on this matter.
