Jackson scores career-high 27 for No. 19 Notre Dame

Running back Josh Adams rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown, including a record-setting 98-yard score, and No. 4 Notre Dame cruised to a 28-7 win over Wake Forest on Saturday. Concerts, Masses and lectures are among the offerings surrounding the Notre Dame vs. Wake Forest game, the last game in Notre Dame Stadium for the season.

“It’s always great to get a win for your seniors in their last home game”, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said. “That just means this group of offensive linemen got the longest run in Notre Dame history”.

“We’re just trying to go out there and get a win”, Irish senior left tackle Ronnie Stanley said when asked if style points are on the team’s mind.

His rise has been a godsend to a Notre Dame defense that has otherwise struggled to slow down opposing offenses.

The playoff committee’s decisions and rationale are out of Notre Dame’s control. Adams has stared in each of the past two games in place of the injured C.J. Prosise. Over the last five games, Okwara has been a completely different player.

Oct 24, 2015; Winston-Salem, NC, U.S.; Wake Forest Demon Deacons quarterback John Wolford (10) looks to pass the ball during the first quarter against the North Carolina State Wolfpack at BB&T Field. Kinal led the country in most punts in 2012 (95) and 2013 (86), fell to a tie for ninth nationally in 2014 (81) and is now 11th this season (61.) Kinal set the Division I record for most career punts with his 323rd skyscraping boot in Saturday’s loss to Notre Dame.

“One for the highlight reel”, Kelly said. The Fighting Irish defense held Wake Forest to 0-for-3 on fourth down.

“We were going to be prudent all the way through this”, Kelly said. Quarterback DeShone Kizer and the Fighting Irish are coming off a win over Pittsburgh by a 42-30 final score and must win today in order to remain in national championship contention for 2015.

Jackson made 10 of 14 shots from the field, including three 3-pointers, for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame lost a few girth, but the insertion of sophomore end Andrew Trumbetti into the lineup gave the Irish a faster and more athletic line. Hinton is the team’s leading rusher with 316 yards and 6 TDs on the season. There had only been two TD runs that long in the previous 126 seasons of Notre Dame football. While the rest of the potential playoff participants are playing in conference championship games or, in the case of the Big 12, would-be championship games, Notre Dame will be sitting home.
