Star Wars: George Lucas on why he stepped away

It looks like EA Games has this week launched the first of many Star Wars Battlefront titles as the publisher has announced that they have plans for many sequels.

Ahead of the much anticipated release of The Force Awakens next month, publisher Washington Green, are releasing six striking Star Wars Marvel comic book covers as limited edition prints at Castle Galleries in Leeds. Experts are betting that the title will easily exceed the opening weekend’s record of $209 million, which was established by Universal Studios’ Jurassic World earlier this year. And since fandom is a competition these days, and box office a major component in ensuring that your particular flavor of entertainment is beating everyone else’s, Star Wars fans can pat themselves on the back. A report from Variety says Fandango, the online movie ticketing service, confirmed that J.J. Abrams’ new Star Wars movie is already well on its way to demolishing a bunch of box-office records.

The “Star Wars” pre-sales have been buoyed by unprecedented demand for IMAX screenings starting on December 17, according to the Hollywood Reporter, with a higher ticket cost than for regular screens.

George Lucas revealed on Wednesday why he walked away from “Star Wars”, the epic space opera franchise he created.

The previous record was held by The Dark Knight, pulling in around $25 million. “Now it’s happening all over again”, presumably referring to an undisclosed plot point in “The Force Awakens”.

Star Wars: Battlefront is out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But for those of us who get excited about the idea of a pop-culture phenomenon, and who still put stock in box-office figures even though inflation makes historical comparisons worthless… yeah, it’s mind-boggling.
