Asked about the significance of the “Chhath” following the Grand Alliance’s resounding victory, Kumar said, “For Biharis, Chhath is a special festival every year”.

Nitish Kumar had invited Modi to the event. A number of leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are expected to attend the event.

While Siddaramaiah has accepted the invite, it is not certain he will attend the ceremony as the state legislature is in session. A senior JD(U) legislator said apart from PM, Nitish called other senior Union ministers, including Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley to invite them for the ceremony.

Lalu Prasad, his JD(U) counterpart Sharad Yadav, Congress General Secretary C P Joshi, JD(U) General Secretary K C Tyagi and state presidents of JD(U), RJD and Congress Basistha Narayan Singh, Ramchandra Purve and Ashok Choudhary respectively accompanied Kumar to the meeting with the Governor.

A party needs 122 for majority in the 243-member Bihar Assembly.
