Man crawls on stage at Broadway show to plug in phone

An audience member tried to charge his iPhone in a fake, onstage outlet during a recent showing of Broadway’s Hand to God.

As it turns out, the outlet was only a prop and not operational.

After removing the cell phone and returning it to its owner, the show’s crew made an announcement to the audience about why people should not try to charge their phones onstage.

It remains unclear whether the brazen theater-goer was truly unaware of the consequences of his actions or perhaps was acting on a dare.

The young man apparently got the message. Upon being escorted out by an usher, he asked where he would be able to charge his phone.

Hand To God actor Sarah Stiles questioned whether the audience member was influenced by a full moon or if he was just an idiot.

It was just as the performance opened that the cheeky person plugged their phone into the fake outlet, part of the set of Hand to God.

Fellow cast member Marc Kudisch also took to Twitter to let future audience members know that the electrical socket was not real, and was part of the set. Playwright Robert Askins’ bracing comedy mixes violence, swearing, brutal honesty, parental failure, church hypocrisy and plenty of sex – of both human and puppet varieties.
