Chelsea’s descent from the summit of the Premier League as champions in May to the nether regions of the Premier League table in mid-November has been quite astonishing.

They will come to Stamford Bridge with the knowledge that Chelsea have been poor and perhaps that they might be able to get something from this match.

Chelsea 2-0 Norwich: Chelsea are certainly not the same side they were last season and the players look short of confidence right now, but I still think they’ll have more than enough to see off Norwich at home and secure a much-needed three points tomorrow.

They are playing with kids of their age, which is different to club football, when they play with people with 15 years’ more experience than them, but at this age every experience is good for them so I’m more than happy’.

But while a succession of senior stars have stepped forward to say it is the players who must shoulder responsibility, the team has failed to pull itself out of its current nosedive. We put ourselves together in this situation in the Premier League.

The caveat of the board’s support was that results must improve, but Chelsea have won twice in seven games since.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois must wait at least another week before returning to the Chelsea team despite resuming training during the week.

“Nobody gives new contracts to managers and players if you don’t trust them”.

“It is important for us to go to a good period because the owner deserves, the board, deserves and the supporters deserve it so much, but more important is we [him and the players] deserve”.

“The situation is good in the squad, so we really believe that good things are waiting for us”.

“No one gives a four-year contract four months ago if they don’t trust the person”. They show they trust us, now it’s time for us to give a positive answer.

The Portuguese, however, is backing his existing squad to come through the worst spell of his managerial career.

Emenalo told the Telegraph that, “Maybe we have to find a better way to help him, to work with him, a better way within the hierarchy”.

“The fact I went that way against Manchester City does not have any bearing on the Chelsea match tactically in setting the team up”, he said.

Mourinho assessed players during the global break. We put ourselves in a great -situawtion together by being champions.
