Buy Local: Small Business Saturday November 28
After feasting on family favorites this Thanksgiving, you may be looking for a chance to burn off some of that turkey and sweet potatoes while checking a few things off your shopping list.

About 60% of people have already begun their holiday shopping less than a week before Thanksgiving. Small business owners understand that if it was not for the community they would not be in business; therefore, this is simply another way to give back. Participating organizations include the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, the American Independent Business Alliance, the global Downtown Association, The Latino Coalition, the National Main Street Center, the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
According to the Small Business Administration, “over half of America’s workers either own or work for small businesses, which create two out of every three new jobs across the country”.
It should be no surprise that 71 percent of Americans see small business as a positive influence in the community. Over sixty local businesses are sponsoring this buy local campaign by donating a $25 gift card and offering Small Business Saturday specials on November 28.
Studies show that most of the money spent in a locally owned small business, remains in that community’s local economy.
The day has always made a big splash in Brooklyn- a borough replete with small businesses- because it increases the visibility of the area’s longtime and up-and-coming mom-and-pop shops and generates revenue for both the business and the community. This year, we encourage St. Tammany residents to join the movement and shop small on November 28. As you “shop small”, also consider “dining small” at a number of unique locally owned eating and drinking establishments.

If the trend continues, 2015’s Small Business Saturday is going to be even bigger.
