Texas unemployment rate up in October to 4.4 percent

The number of jobless is almost 6,000 above last month, but nearly 16,000 fewer than October 2014.

Florida’s statewide unemployment rate for October was 5.1 percent, which is seasonally adjusted, also the lowest in seven years. Last month’s increase follows similar ones in January and July.

When breaking it down regionally, most areas saw job gains, including Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties, which added 10,800 non-farm jobs.

Employment in leisure and hospitality rose by 3,200, a majority, 2,500, in food services.

Rutherford County’s jobless rate fell slightly in September to 4.6 percent, tying for the third lowest in the state with Davidson County.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy called the state reaching it pre-recession unemployment rate “a new and important milestone”.

Among the nine geographic divisions, the West North Central had the lowest unemployment rate, 4.0 percent in October. Many retired, but others simply gave up after months of looking for jobs without success. It is down from 8.1 percent in December 2013, representing a 3.3 percentage point decrease in unemployment since Mayor de Blasio took office. It also fell below the national unemployment average, which is 5 percent.

Colorado’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since August 2007, according to Colorado Department of Labor and Employment data released Friday.

One of those differences is Jacksonville is actually adding jobs at a faster pace than the rest of the state. The next highest was Hardee County at 7.9 percent, down from 8.6 percent in September. The remaining 24 states had rates that were not appreciably different from those of a year earlier.

In October 2015, 23 states had statistically significant over-the-month changes in employment, all of which were positive.

Construction up by 8,200 jobs, with most of the gains, 7,200, in specialty trade contractors. States with the largest decreases for initial claims were Louisiana (-632) with MI (-520) following.

Texas employers added 20,000 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in October, marking the eighth month of 2015 with jobs added.
