A remake of Lost in Space is in the works at Netflix
Now comes word of another show that looks poised to join Netflix – a remake of “Lost in Space” from Legendary Television, as reported Friday by Deadline. Reportedly, the project had major interest – described as a “competitive situation, with multiple bidders” – and Netflix isn’t looking to waste time, with a likely straight-to-series order. Marshall is expected to direct.

Fine…but if they leave out Dr. Smith or the Robot then it’s not really Lost In Space! A previous version went to pilot in the 2003-04 season but never became a series; a film version was released in 1998.
A remake of the iconic science fiction series Lost In Space, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, is no longer lost. What do you think of this news? Since Jashni is now the CCO at Legendary, it’s a reunion project for the two. The four worked on the pitch that was taken out, landing at Netflix. Marshall and Helwig also exec produce and Marshall is directing Legendary TV’s USA Network drama pilot Poor Richard’s Almanack.

Lost in Space was originally created in 1965 by Irwin Allen and was set 30 years in the future (the far off 1997!), and followed the adventures of the Robinsons, a family of explorers whose ship is sabotaged and set off course, leaving them stranding in outer space. It was produced by 20th Century Fox, which continues to syndicate the existing episodes but does not hold rights or have any underlying ownership in the franchise.
