Tesla recalls all Model S cars worldwide for seatbelt fix

“This vehicle was not involved in a crash and there were no injuries. However, in the event of a crash, a seat belt in this condition would not provide full protection”. About 3,000 Model S examples have been inspected so far with no problem, but Tesla wants to be sure that the problem isn’t widespread across the rest of the fleet.

In an email to customers, Tesla said it was ordering the recall as a “proactive” step after learning of a Model S in Europe with a front seatbelt “that was not properly connected to the outboard lap pretensioner”. Tesla sent an email Friday to affected customers. The model years for all variants of the vehicle are not available and that includes the P85D. Therefore, the company is recalling all its Model S Vehicle to check out the seat belt issue and fix things up where needed.

Tesla’s other vehicles, the Model X SUV and the Roadster, aren’t affected. Seat belts in the back seat of the Model S also aren’t affected. Now it’s contacting customers by e-mail and asking them to bring their cars in for inspection.

Khobi Brooklyn, spokeswoman for the electric automaker, confirmed the recall, further explaining that the issue was raised when a female customer reported how her seat belt disconnected when she turned to talk to people in the rear-seat. The seat belt is anchored to the outboard lap pretensioner through two anchor plates that are bolted together. “The bolt that was supposed to tie the two anchors together wasn’t properly assembled”. He added that what is right for the customer is right for the company too.
