Paris attacks: ‘La Marseillaise’ to be played at English Premier League games

On Tuesday, Wembley Stadium stood as one to sing both national anthems in a show of solidarity prior to England’s 2-0 friendly win over France.

There was also a second statement from the Premier League today, but whether this is the full public statement they talked about earlier in the week or not, I’m not sure.

Hughes said: “I think the Premier League feels it’s the appropriate response”.

Audiences for Premier League games on USA television have risen by 150% in three years, and were up by 67% year-on-year for the opening weeks of this season. I will be looking for resilience and desire to play. “I will look how deeply they are affected”.

Reports have emerged in recent days that the duo have been on the verge of signing new contracts, but Wenger insists no negotiations have begun yet.

But Garber, who admitted interest in the idea of a friendly summer competition involving the best of the MLS, the Premier League, the German Bundesliga and Italy’s Serie A, said: “The rising tide lifts all boats, and we’ve got the most boats on the water. “(Sanchez) is the same situation – at the end of the year they have two-and-a-half years’ contract.

“I would like to thank the English community and English football, who have shown great solidarity”.

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde, another Frenchman, has revealed that his daughter was in Paris at the time of the attacks, which unfolded while he was in a taxi after flying back to France.

The Premier League honoured the victims of the Paris attacks on Saturday as La Marseillaise was played before all games.

Scudamore cited deep and long-standing ties between the English top flight and France as the inspiration to honor the victims and survivors of last week’s deadly terrorist attacks in Paris. Whilst there has been no specific intelligence threat ahead of games, the alert level and position of the Premier League, given obviously heightened concerns and awareness, remains unchanged.

Clubs will follow guidance from anti-terrorism security agencies – the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre and the National Counter Terrorism Security Office – to ensure this weekend’s action is played under the safest conditions. The highest profile match of the weekend is between Manchester City and Liverpool.
