During the first half of the year, Amnesty global said it believed Iran put to death almost 700 people in what it called a “staggering” execution spree.
Kasich took out a $6.5 million ad buy hitting Trump, so the billionaire took out a dozen tweets. Iran’s ongoing abuses include discrimination against women and minority groups; arrests and detention of human rights defenders, activists, and journalists; and a record number of executions following unfair trials.
People protest against executions and human rights violations in Iran on a square near the Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague, on March 25, 2014. “It was reportedly based on a report by a United Nations investigator who said executions in Iran have been rising at “an exponential rate” since 2005 and could top to 1,000 this year”.
It also urges the government to release the seven imprisoned Baha’i leaders, and “to eliminate, in law and in practice, all forms of discrimination, including the closure of businesses, and other human rights violations against persons belonging to recognized and unrecognized religious minorities”.
Iranian officials criticized the resolution as an example of “Iranophobia”.
Iran’s deputy United Nations representative, Gholamhossein Dehghani called the resolution a distortion of the facts and “nothing but baseless and pure speculation and hearsay”.
“The Iranian authorities shouldn’t think that they are getting a pass on human rights just because the nuclear accord has been signed”, said Sarah Lean Wilson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch.
The resolution also condemned the presence in Syria of “all foreign terrorist fighters… and foreign forces fighting on behalf of the Syrian regime, particularly the al Quds Brigades, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (of Iran) and militia groups, such as Hezbollah”.
The resolution now goes to the full General Assembly.

Republican voters are now “dating” Carson, Trump and Cruz, but eventually they’ll “marry” Jeb. Secretary of State John Kerry has voiced hopes in recent weeks that Russian Federation and Iran, Mr. Assad’s closest allies, will agree to a political transition in Damascus that excludes the Syrian dictator, provided their security and economic interests are respected.
