No severe storms were reported in the WLKY viewing area.

The weather service said a tornado near Avoca, Iowa, destroyed outbuildings, uprooted trees and blew over semis.

In fact, a few of the strongest tornadoes to strike the state have occurred in November as strong lows form in the Plains and pull in warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico and cold, dry air from Canada, creating a strong temperature gradient.

The witches started with the midsection of the country Wednesday as the system moved into Nebraska and Iowa after dropping as much as a foot of snow on parts of Colorado Rockies. The system was expected to bring high winds to portions of IL and Wisconsin during the overnight hours. “So on the cold side, you have a chance for snow or freezing precipitation accompanied by very strong winds and occasionally blizzard conditions….”

As a fast-moving storm races east from Colorado, it appears winter may be suddenly arrive for several Midwest states. That tornado was tracking northeast, west of Des Moines, where it damaged a grain bin and then crossed Interstate 80, hurling a tractor trailer across the median into a ditch on the other side of the road. The NWS recommends having a way to get severe weather warnings.

It will be windy again Thursday in the Corridor, but with no rain forecast and a high of about 50, KCRG-TV9 meteorologists said.

But the Storm Prediction Center’s computer models haven’t been changing, which is why the threat of severe weather shouldn’t be taken lightly.

At one point, the weather service had tornado watches issued for parts of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri.

The winds could continue to cause damage – more than 12,000 customers lost power in the Kansas City area as winds gusted to over 100km/h.

Meanwhile, Kootlowski further shared that storm Kate could be the last bad weather for this year as hurricane season is about to end this November 30.
