The discovery of Marberger’s body brings to close an intense search in which Washington College officials closed the Eastern Shore campus after learning that Marberger may have taken a gun from his Pennsylvania home. College officials initially planned to resume classes the next day, but after receiving new information from law enforcement, they opted to keep the campus closed until after the Thanksgiving break.

The college is expected to reopen on November 29.

“All residential students have either returned home or been taken in by members of the campus and Chestertown community”, Bair said in her statement Wednesday.

Police in Marberger’s hometown of Cheltenham Township, Penn. – a Philadelphia suburb about 100 miles northeast of the school – told the Baltimore Sun Monday that Marberger’s parents had told them he was “despondent over recent issues at college”.

Marberger is wanted on four charges related to him showing an antique gun at his fraternity house last month while intoxicated.

Baker went onto say that the Pennsylvania State Police are investigating Marberger’s death.

O’Connor said Marberger was facing charges in the October 9 incident including possessing a risky weapon, possessing a weapon on school property and possessing a firearm as a minor, as well as a charge for possessing ammunition he allegedly had in his dorm.

Baker said police are maintaining a presence at the college, though there is much less concern now, because the students are not there anymore.
