– AAA is expecting almost 50 million Americans to travel this Thanksgiving holiday. Public Relations Manager for AAA-Ohio, Kimberly Scwind, said Thanksgiving travel volume is expected to be at the highest level since 2007. About 90 percent of those traveling will be driving.

“Drivers will be paying about $5 less per full tank than they did during last years Thanksgiving weekend.

According to GasBuddy.com, the Grand Rapids average price is $1.95 per gallon and the lowest in the area is $1.79. This represents a slight increase of 0.6 percent when compared to last year’s figures. Today, while the state average may be $2.12, it can be found under $2 a gallon at a few stations. Motorists will enjoy cheaper fuel prices than last Thanksgiving with gas about 70 cents cheaper than during Thanksgiving 2014. Though the economy is still lagging, as AAA’s Regina Cooper Averella said earlier this week, “many Americans and Marylanders will not sacrifice traveling to spend the holiday with loved ones”.

Gas prices heading into the holiday season are continuing to fall.

“Take your time. It’s going to take you longer to stop”. Most U.S. drivers will pay the lowest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2008.

“A little bit of change in the pattern from previous year is good for everybody”, National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Miketta said, noting the jet stream looks to be bringing needed rain to parts of the West while keeping the northeast comfortable.

“I’m not sure it’s a major driver for us, here”, said Bob Harris, vice president for tourism at the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance.
