Bihar CM reviews law and order situation with officials

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday allocated ministries to his new ministers, making RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s younger son Tejaswi Yadav the deputy chief minister.

Deputy chief minister Tejaswi Yadav was not present at the meeting, which was attended by chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh and state police chief P.K. Thakur.

The ceremony was attended by regional parties from across India, a few of which will face the BJP in state polls.

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal, Oommen Chandy of Kerala, Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi, Virbhadra Singh of Himachal Pradesh, S. Siddaramaiah of Karnataka, Tarun Gogoi of Assam, P K Chamling of Sikkim, O Ibobi Singh of Manipur and Nabam Tuki of Arunachal Pradesh were amongst those present on the occasion. It is also the first time Bihar will be having a coalition government of the JD-U, RJD and Congress. Lalu did not made any comment on the first day of his sons in the government and said that it was for the CM to comment on their performance of his ministers. The ceremony also saw the presence of Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and BJP leader Sushil Modi.

The RJD won 80 seats, JD(U) 71 and Congress 27 out of a total of 178 seats that the alliance has in the 243-member house. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had hoped to oust Nitish Kumar, bagged 53 seats while its three allies together got five seats. Mr. Lalu Prasad and JD (U) President Sharad Yadav were among the prominent guests at the function. The chief minister stressed on the need for a scientific approach for faster investigation of crimes.

The seasoned politician has picked meaty portfolios – PWD and roads for Tejashwi and health for Tej Pratap.

The Chief Minister will look after home, general administration and information and public relations, highly placed sources in the Raj Bhawan said, adding that the list has been approved by the Governor Ram Nath Kovind.
