Liverpool have drawn two, won one and lost one of their four Premier League games with Klopp at the helm to leave them 10th in the table and seven points behind Manchester United in fourth.

Jamie Redknapp and Frank Lampard highlight the performance of Philippe Coutinho as the key factor in the 4-1 win for Liverpool at Manchester City.

The pre-match narrative centred around Raheem Sterling facing Liverpool for the first time since his controversial summer switch, but it was the young talent who stayed on L4 and signed a new five-year deal that attracted the spotlight on the pitch. Brendan Rodgers” sacking by Liverpool was a “must’, according to Reds star Roberto Firmino.

Yet Liverpool, whose eye-catching Brazilian Firmino squandered a couple of other opportunities to seal the one-sided triumph, looked largely in control and completed the rout with a thunderous, if unlikely, 81st minute strike from Martin Skrtel. But City weren’t able to demonstrate their usual swagger primarily because the visitors didn’t allow them to. Each misplaced pass from a player in sky blue drew a flurry of invective from the home fans, but shortly before half-time Aguero gave them hope.

Pellegrini replaced Yaya Toure and Jesus Navas with Fernandinho and Fabian Delph for the second half in a bid to add more solidity to his team. The changes made City more compact, but did little to inject attacking impetus, yet they at least enabled the home side to claim a foothold. The pair were involved in all three goals as Liverpool established a firm hold on the game. Instead of shooting, Sterling passed to Aguero, whose shot from the edge of area was saved. It was a suitably forceful finish to a brutal demolition.
