Hindus anywhere have right to seek shelter in Hindustan: Assam Governor

Assam Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya today expressed concern over the condition of around 45,000 street vendors in the state capital and suggested the GMC to initiate steps for them.

The Congress chief additional stated it appears the Governor has forgotten that he’s holding a constitutional publish. “They can go to Pakistan or to India, just like Taslima Nasrin has come to settle in India”.

Acharya made the controversial comments during a book launch in reply to a question on the Centre’s notification of allowing religious minorities from Pakistan and Bangladesh fleeing persecution to seek shelter in India.

His statement on Sunday came a day after a section of the media quoted Acharya as saying that “Hindustan is for Hindus and that there is nothing wrong with that”. Towing the populist line and fanning the anti- migrant sentiments in the state, Acharya said that not a single Bangladeshi’s name should be there in the National Register for Citizens (NCR). There is nothing flawed with that. Hindus from different countries can stay here. They can not be outsiders. There is nothing to be feared about that.

The Governor of Assam and Nagaland on Sunday said that Indian Muslims who feel persecuted in here they freely go anywhere.

After facing flak for his remarks Acharya clarified that he meant that persecuted Hindus anywhere have the right to seek shelter in India
