Trade, transportation and utilities also added 1,100 jobs, with 1,600 new jobs in retail trade more than offsetting losses in other subsectors. Blue Lake reported the lowest unemployment with 2.2 percent, according to the data.

The unemployment rate tumbled below 4.5 percent in 21 states, including Texas, Colorado, and Virginia. The jobless rate slipped two-tenths of a point to 4.8 percent in Delta County while edging up a tenth to 3.4 percent in Garfield County and 4.6 percent in Rio Blanco County. Over the year, nonfarm employment increased in 47 states and the District of Columbia and decreased in 3 states.
