Third body in Paris raid identified as cousin of attack ‘mastermind’

On Friday, prosecutors said the other two men who detonated explosives vests outside the stadium had entered Europe through Greece on the same day, October 3, pretending to be refugees fleeing the war in Syria.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls warned on Thursday that France was at a risk of chemical or biological weapons attack, as lawmakers voted to extend a state of emergency imposed after the Paris carnage.

In all, seven attackers are known to have died on the night of the bloodshed which rocked France, 10 months after the jihadist attacks on a satirical magazine and Jewish supermarket. Hundreds were also wounded.

“It was a big surprise when the intelligence came in”, said a police official. “They said it didn’t matter – they only wanted water and to be able to pray”.

United Kingdom Home Secretary Theresa May said ahead of the meeting in Brussels: “I think we need accelerated progress on firearms”.

Abaaoud ended up near Paris after reportedly being in Syria but officials have not said how he managed to travel across so many borders to the French capital.

French media reported on Saturday that Aitboulahcen may not even have been involved in the plot, only being asked by Abaaoud to find a hideout as a last resort.

Police had been hunting Abaaoud since the killing of 130 people in Paris on November 13, which was claimed by Islamic State, and which they believe he orchestrated.

People gather at a makeshift memorial in front of Le Carillon restaurant, one of the sites of the attacks in Paris.

The body of a second woman has also been found in the apartment building where an entire floor collapsed during the police operation.

Police have already identified the mangled body of the supposed mastermind, Abdelhamid Abaaoud.

The office said in a statement Friday that the body is that of a woman but her identity is unclear.

Belgium police are still investigating ties between Brussels and the attack. French police stopped Abdeslam the morning after Friday’s attacks at the Belgian border but let him go.

Since the Belgian connection was discovered, the government has vowed to tighten security and crack down on suspected extremists. French President Francois Hollande is going to Washington and Moscow next week to push for a stronger worldwide coalition against the Islamic State.

“The European cannot take more time”. The ceremony will be held at the gold-domed Hotel des Invalides, where Napoleon’s tomb lies and which is seen as a symbol of France’s military and global strength.
