The unemployment rate in Solano County increased slightly for October, one of several months to experience an uptick during a year that has seen a steady decline in jobless figures, according to data released Friday by the California Employment Development Department. The state’s job increases have yielded a 1.7 percent annual growth rate continuing its string of positive annual growth for 66 consecutive months.

Employment increased by 7,200 jobs, with more than half the gain coming in the government sector.

IN tied with OH for the lowest unemployment rate in the Midwest for October.

In total, the Sunshine State added more than 36,000 jobs in October alone.

“There are certainly many areas of the state that grew many more jobs, but of course they’re much bigger”, Panuccio said.

Unemployment rates typically fall because those out of work find jobs. Accounting for this and other seasonal factors, the seasonally-adjusted figure for payroll jobs actually dropped by 2,500.

“The well-documented fall in oil prices continues to detrimentally affect the industry’s employment levels”. The increase was attributed to public school employment reaching full capacity.

In October, Florida’s 24 regional workforce boards reported more than 34,874 Floridians, including 1,727 veterans, were placed in jobs. North Dakota had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.8 percent. The largest year-over-year job gains have occurred in the education and health services, leisure and hospitality and construction sectors. Manufacturing posted the largest decreases on a numerical basis, down 3,000 jobs (a 0.2 percent decrease). Compared to October a year ago, the number of jobs in the state was up by 239,900, an increase of 3.0%.
