National Football League notebook: Peyton Manning out, Brock Osweilier in for Denver Broncos

At his Monday press conference, Head Coach Gary Kubiak announced that Brock Osweiler would start next Sunday in Chicago in place of the injured Peyton Manning.

Manning was removed from Sunday’s loss against the Kansas City Chiefs with just over six minutes remaining in the third quarter, and Osweiler closed out the game 14-of-24 for 146 yards to go with a touchdown and an interception. Peyton Manning completed 5 of 20 passes for only 35 yards and four interceptions and he was pulled out of the game. Everyone has to quit loading all the mess in Denver on Manning the Executive chose to to change the scheme and run the ball but he did not bring in the talent to do so or to protect his QB Manning needs help he can not win the game by himself. “I am disappointed in myself”.

“You practice new things and then you discuss what you like about it, what you don’t like about it and just move forward from there”, Osweiler said.

So, Manning told Osweiler he’d be there for any questions he might have, “but I’m not going to be one of those extra voices in his ear”. They certainly played like it too, and went on to crush the Broncos 29-13 in what could have possibly been Manning’s last game in his career. Sunday, he could be leading the Broncos in Chicago. “I know that’s the best decision for him, to get him back and healthy, and we need to know where we’re heading this week”.

“I’m kind of focused on the small picture of trying to get healthy and trying to get a few of the things that I’m dealing with injury-wise”.

“I think he’s handled it professionally”, Reid said.

“Hey, they are 7-2 and in a good spot”. Each time Manning gets on the field and throws a pass is a little setback to his recovery.

It’s been readily apparent to anyone paying attention – and being honest with themselves – that Peyton’s arm is a far cry from what it used to be and he doesn’t have the strength to play at the level we’re used to seeing, let alone for a 16-game season well into winter. Fox had waxed nostalgic about his three years coaching Manning – he called the quarterback “the best time-management guy I’ve ever seen” and lauded his competitive leadership. Kubiak put Manning in the Pistol more as the team continues to try to kick-start a struggling run game.

“I don’t know what a partial tear feels like”. Sunday’s contest will mark Manning’s first missed start of his career outside 2011, when he missed the entire season due to a neck injury.

-SPECIAL TEAMS: C. Desperate to get something going, coordinator Joe DeCamillis’ unit tried an onside kick to open the second half – and then had two more after fourth-quarter touchdowns.

What an indignity. But now with the “injury”, the Broncos can hand the reigns to Osweiler against the Bears and delay the inevitable another week.

Osweiler originally committed to play basketball at Gonzaga, but once his football highlight reel made the rounds, he became a hot commodity, and he ultimately switched to Arizona State. It still seems hard to believe that no one really knows what is a catch and what is not.
