He thanked BJP president Amit Shah for entrusting him with the responsibility, adding that 2016 Assam Assembly elections were his main target.

“With the help of individuals of Assam we consider that we will convey modifications…2016 elections is our important goal”. We need to type BJP authorities right here.

Asked whether he would be the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate for the coming polls, he said, “My priority now is to take along all sections of society and BJP workers and leaders and win the election”. Appointment of new president is part of our poll preparation, Javadekar said in New Delhi.BJP MPs Rajen Gohain and Ramen Deka are two other vice chairmen, while former Congress heavy weight and newly inducted BJP member Himanta Biswa Sarma is convener of the committee. For the first time in Assam politics, BJP had won as many as seven seats in the general elections held previous year.

He claimed that young and old alike in Assam are fed up with the alleged rampant corruption of the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government and the BJP would expose how Congress leaders “looted public money” at the cost of the common people. “Development of all sections of people through good governance, justice to everyone and promote value of democracy will be our main campaign theme”, he said over phone from Dibrugarh.

Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said the decision was taken by Bharatiya Janata Party’s national resident Amit Shah. Commenting on the recent drubbing the party has received in Delhi and Bihar elections, Mr Javadekar said the trend started in 2014 of winning elections after elections, has been punctuated in 2015. Sonowal now holds independent charge of the Sports and Youths Affairs Ministry.
