Furbush is heading to the disabled list because of biceps tendinitis.

Furbush, 29, is on the disabled list for the second time in his career and first time since 2012. Furbush has made 33 appearances this season, recording a 2.08 ERA with 13 holds.

“We don’t think it’s serious”, said Manager Lloyd McClendon. “That’s why we are doing this, so it won’t be serious”. If all goes well, Furbush also could be back shortly after the All-Star break – he is eligible to come off the DL on July 23 – but the Mariners will have to depend on inconsistent veteran lefties Vidal Nuno and Joe Beimel until then. He appeared in nine games for the Mariners between June 7-July 1, going 0-0 with a 2.53 ERA (3 ER, 10.2 IP).

DH Jesus Montero was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma, where he was hitting. After several seasons plagued by self-inflicted setbacks, Montero has played his way back to the top and will finally get another shot in the major leagues.

The Happ move was, for all intents and purposes, a formality to clear a roster spot for a few games before and after the All-Star break.
