Cal looks to end Stanford’s Big Game winning streak
California quarterback Jared Goff (16) throws against Stanford during the second half of an NCAA college football game Saturday, November 21, 2015, in Stanford, Calif.

With six seconds to play, Stewart threw up a pray in the direction of the end zone, where Colorado receiver Blake Anderson tipped the pass into the arms of Westbrook for the improbable score.
Now comes the biggest game.
ABOUT CAL (6-4, 3-4 Pac-12): After throwing eight interceptions during the Golden Bears’ four-game losing streak, Goff turned in a stellar outing against Oregon State and moved into eighth on the Pac-12 career list with 10,800 passing yards.
“That was a moment we had been training for all year”, McClure, a senior safety, said after the game. The last transfer between the two schools before Scarlett was Dale Rubin, who played for Cal in 1962 and then with the Cardinal in 1964-65.
The Stanford Cardinal are heading to Levi’s Stadium. Where Cal barely beat lesser teams past year, this season they’ve beaten a few of them convincingly.
“My teammates’ heads were down”. “It’s disappointing for us and disappointing for him because he’s such a good player”.
Scarlett is enjoying his best season as a collegiate athlete, and last week posted his best game as a member of the Cardinal in the heartbreaking defeat to OR with a 5 tackle, 2.5-sack performance.
Mind you, I’m not saying they’re the two BEST teams, I’m saying if you’ve tracked the results of Cal and Stanford all season, they’re consistent-they both generally perform relatively consistently relative to talent and match-ups, if you add in Vernon Adams’ resuscitation of OR to explain Stanford’s loss last weekend. “Stanford, they run their offense”. Stanford almost came all the way back with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes by Kevin Hogan, but his tying 2-point attempt was broken up with 10 seconds left. Arizona State sputtered offensively early before reeling off a string of big plays to build a 21-point halftime lead.
NOOOO – the father of Utah running back confirmed Devontae Booker is out for the rest of the regular season after having knee surgery Thursday.
“He’s an awesome quarterback, and they have a lot of weapons this year, ” Martinez said.
“I never got to hit Jared so that’s the plan”, he said. But Mekari said slowing down the run is Job One. “I think that is to our advantage, for sure”, he said. The concern at the outset of the game was that the Cardinal offensive line would dominate the Bears’ defense and that it wouldn’t be able to come up with an effective counter.
“We’re trying to keep taking steps forward, (and) this is one of those steps”, Dykes said this week. The series began in 1884, but is the most played because the teams met twice a year from 1884-1901 – and three times in 1891. That must be part of a winning equation Saturday. Stanford won the Pac-12 North for the third time in four years Saturday, but unlike in years past, it was the Cardinal offense, aka McCaffrey, that’s to credit for the title. It hardly needs saying that number won’t get it done this time.
With Stanford’s best cornerback, Ronnie Harris, out with an ankle injury, this means that Stanford will be playing first-year starters at every position in the secondary. Cal is tied for fifth nationally with 24 turnovers gained, but has just six in the past five games….
“If we can run the ball it changes everything”.
“We have a really tight-knit locker room here”, said Shuler. This is a big game, it is the Big Game and our guys were phenomenal in practice all week.
