California’s unemployment rate, not seasonally adjusted, was 5.7%, versus 5.5% in September and 7% a year earlier. “Looking back, we’ve seen a few bigger drops in recent years; it was 17,200 jobs in 2008” in Fresno County, Gutierrez said.
Having added 41,200 net jobs last month, the state’s numbers are actually more in line with the roughly 38,000 jobs the state typically adds on an average monthly basis.
The Arkansas unemployment continued to tick down in October falling to 5.1 percent. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area had the highest jobless rate in Texas at 7.4 percent, according to agency figures. “Next year, employees, especially those with high skills and who are bringing high value to their firms, can look forward to larger raises”.
The service industry added the most jobs in October with 12,000 jobs in leisure and hospitality and 3,300 positions in professional and business services industry.
The sector has grown about 2.3% over the past year.
The number of workers without jobs in California decreased last month from the previous month and the number of nonfarm payroll jobs increased, according to new data from the California Employment Development Department.
Statewide unemployment dipped to 5.8 percent in October from 5.9 percent in September. Chief Economist Barbara Wagner with the Dept. of Labor and Industry said unemployment stayed at 4.1 percent.
Osceola’s rate was 5.3 percent, down from 5.5 percent in September and down from 6.2 percent a year ago. All other counties saw decreases over the month and either no change or decreases over the year.
However, data released on Friday revised the job gains for September upward with the new data showing the state posted a jobs gain of 21,100.

Iowa’s unemployment rate is the nation’s sixth lowest. The largest gains were in health care/social assistance (up 23,000 jobs), leisure/hospitality (18,700) and food services (18,000). There are now 4,255,100 total jobs in NY City.
