“The Indian government is also inviting Malaysian investors to participate in economic activities following new developmental and business initiatives undertaken by India”, he said. “It signals closer cooperation and a new dimension to people-to-people engagement between both countries”.
In this context, since Malaysian competence in infrastructure is well-known – it has completed several important projects, including in the road sector in India – Modi expressed his interest in increased Malaysian participation in the expansion and the upgradation of infrastructure, Make in India, and Smart Cities projects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India has ended regulatory uncertainty to a large extent and is creating a policy driven state.
Noting that the two back-to-back airline tragedies could sap the morale of any nation, Modi said he commends Prime Minister Najib’s leadership and the resolve and resilience of the Malaysian people.
“The inauguration of Torana Gate shows India-Malaysia ties are not only economical but also cultural”, added PM Modi.
Modi said the gate was first made by emperor Ashoka in Madhya Pradesh and was dedicated to Lord Buddha. It is a symbol of ties and friendship between the two peoples and marked yet another high point in the long history of India and Malaysia, he said.
“It is a symbol of friendship between both nations – a symbol of universal brotherhood, equality and tradition of both countries”, he said.
The gate, measuring 10m tall and 7.3m wide, is identical to the Great Stupa at Sanchi, India.
The Ministry of Federal Territories, in a statement today said the Indian government absorbed the entire cost of the Gate’s construction.
Earlier in the day, Modi paid an official visit to Najib at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.
Modi arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to attend the 27th Asean Summit and Related Summits.
