The movie is praised by critics, giving Mockingjay Part 2 a worthy sendoff for the franchise. Did the relatively lackluster performance show interest in the series has peaked?

“Across the board this is just down and it’s a direct reflection of how people thought about [‘Mockingjay – Part 1]”, said Jeff Bock, a box office analyst with Exhibitor Relations.
On the same weekend in 2014, “Mockingjay – Part 1” earned $121.9 million in the US and $274.9 million globally.
Cast members Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson pose at the premiere of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” in Los Angeles November 16, 2015.
I can see how, if you kept “Mockingjay” in one piece, you could have a fairly effective movie. Overall, the initial reviews appeared to be more positive than those for Part 1.
LionsGate’s “The Hunger Games” films tapped into the burgeoning young adult market and have grossed more than $2.3 billion worldwide with the tale of teens forced to compete in annual televised death matches. Director Francis Lawrence told MTV News that the moment was crucial to the films and characters.
Dergarabedian attributes the showing to a down marketplace. But big difference here is that in the book, Katniss is working through far more serious mental health issues than the movie portrays. “If we live in a world where a $100 million opening is a disappointment, that’s pretty insane”.
Here’s what you should know about “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2“.
Lionsgate Studios spent roughly $160 million in the making of the major blockbuster. Just two weekends ago, “Spectre”, which fell to second place this week with $14.6 million, failed to live up to the domestic opening of “Skyfall”, the previous James Bond film. “The Peanuts Movie” finished third, picking up $12.8 million to push its stated total to $98.9 million. It helped launch Jennifer Lawrence into superstardom, as the film was the most financially successful for a movie featuring a female lead. The R-rated Christmas comedy took in about $10.1 million.

The Julia Roberts thriller “The Secret in Their Eyes”, a remake of the Oscar-winning Argentinian film, debuted wide this weekend to $6.6 million from 2,392 locations – slightly under expectations. Again, everyone has to make their own decision and children have a different maturity level, but this movie is intense, brutally violent and, at times, incredibly depressing. Part 1 was the highest-grossing film of 2014 and the first film, 2012’s The Hunger Games, had one of the most lucrative openings in film history.
