Perez calls press conference at Real Madrid

Benitez has only been in charge of Madrid since the summer but already finds himself under increasing pressure, initially for a perceived negative style of play and now due to Saturday’s 4-0 home mauling by Barcelona.

The weekend defeat left Madrid in third place in La Liga, six points behind Barca and two adrift of city rivals Atletico.

Goals either side of half-time from Neymar, Andres Iniesta and Luis Suarez (2) gave Barca a comfortable victory at the Santiago Bernabeu and drew the ire of the home fans, who booed their team off the pitch at the final whistle.

The report adds that Ronaldo has since told Madrid president Florentino Perez that the situation is simple: either Benitez leaves the club or he will.

Former Barcelona star Rivaldo believes now is the time for Real Madrid to make Zinedine Zidane their head coach.

Real Madrid announced on Monday morning that they will hold a press conference in the evening. “Right now I’m at Castilla”.

Zidane, who made more than 150 appearances over a five-year spell as a player with Real, has been in charge of Castilla since June 2014.

“Replace Benítez? I’m the Castilla coach and Benítez is the first-team coach”.

“I’m still lacking a lot, and anyway a coach is never ready”. Last year, at the end of the season, I had the feeling that I still lacked something to take over the first team. The important thing is to be happy day-to-day with what I am doing.
