SEC West title hopes still in play for Ole Miss

“That seemed to plague us in the first half, the number of penalties that followed big plays”, LSU coach Les Miles said.

Ole Miss Police say, the officers involved are not officers with the University Police Department, but are certified officers from other jurisdictions hired to work security at home football games. The Tigers and the Rebels hook up for the latest edition of the Magnolia Bowl Saturday afternoon in Oxford. The Tigers were penalized 13 times for 95 yards, had three turnovers and fumbled four times, including twice on one series. “Not how we practice every day certainly”. They hung in there, battled, defended well and forced the game into a shootout on the road.

Miles may only have one game left, too.

LSU could still finish this season with 10 wins.

Miles said he hasn’t spent any time contemplating reports that his tenure might be coming to an end.

Miles will fend off hundreds of questions about that play, and he’ll continue to hear ideas that his job is in jeopardy after three straight losses. “None of this is possible without my teammates”, Kelly said. “We’re doing a good job”.

The Ole Miss Rebels are 8-3 this season and despite hitting a few bumps along he way they have had a solid season. I for one have a hard time seeing Fisher leave the sweet set up he has in Tallahassee to come grapple with Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Ole Miss annually.

LSU fell behind by 10 points to Alabama and 21 to Arkansas and were unable to overcome either deficit. Ole Miss racked up 432 yards of total offense, including 361 total yards from Kelly.

LSU quarterback Brandon Harris was 25 of 49 for 313 yards and a touchdown pass to Tyron Johnson to put the Tigers on the board. The 26 completions and 51 attempts were also career highs. Fournette is what will get LSU a win, but the strong defensive front of Ole Miss could prevent that from happening.

LSU’s defense held Ole Miss (7-3, 5-2) in check until the second quarter, when junior quarterback Chad Kelly made throws of 27 and 20 yards to lead the Rebels into the red zone. After a phenomenal rushing touchdown by Kelly that saw him flip across the goal line and then a passing touchdown to tight end Evan Engram, Ole Miss took a 38-17 lead. Ole Miss was ranked for 27 consecutive weeks.

Ole Miss maintains slim SEC West title hopes. “Anything can happen. It’s going to be a dogfight all 60 minutes – no game is won in 30 minutes”. While he will be a long shot for a Heisman victory, there’s no doubt that he is an impressive specimen and more than capable of having a strong performance against the Rebels.

Report Les Miles could be fired even if LSU Tigers win out
