Coutinho is emerging into one of the stand out players in the Premier League.

Pellegrini will also be without star midfielder Samir Nasri, the Frenchman is still injured and will be out until next year with a hamstring injury.

Liverpool are very keen on snapping up Icardi and the reports go on to claim that the Premier League side could launch a bid of around £24.5million in order to tempt Inter into parting with their star man.

Leicester City are now occupying one of the top four spots, but they aren’t expected to keep up with the rest for the entire season, and when they drop off, Klopp’s men are expected to pounce.

And it was fitting that Martin Skrtel capped a fine display with a rare goal – a well hit shot from the edge of the box that sent Klopp, Liverpool fans and players into scenes of jubilation. He initially struggled with the pace of the Premier League after arriving from Hoffenheim but has grown in confidence backed by the faith of Klopp, who has started him in an advanced role in preference to Christian Benteke in the wins at Chelsea and now City. Now we are in a better way than two weeks ago and we have to go ahead.

James Milner feels there is even more to come from Liverpool after their stunning victory at Manchester City.

Asked what had changed for Liverpool since the dismissal of his predecessor Brendan Rodgers last month, Klopp replied: “For us it’s not important what’s different”.

“We knew how they like to play”, Lovren added.

Lovren is part of a defence that has benefited from Klopp’s tactics and the Croatia centre back has heaped praise on his manager – while hailing him for instilling belief in the team. It was a well-deserved win, full of zest and attractive football from the visitors which left Liverpool’s Adam Lallana enthusing: “We didn’t give them a second on the ball”.

The entire Liverpool team carried out Klopp’s plan very well, if not absolutely perfectly by his own admission.

Sagna and Eliaquim Mangala, who scored an own-goal and had a particularly poor game, had been involved with France at the time of the terrorist attacks on Paris.
