Standouts from Buccaneers vs. Eagles

It was Philadelphia’s second straight loss and its third loss in the past four games. It is the third most by a defensive tackle in team history.

The Eagles appear to be a team going nowhere. The defense was rated eighth overall.

For the Eagles, slow starts this season have been as customary as a commuter’s morning stop at Wawa. Both teams are now 4-6, with Washington ahead of the Eagles by virtue of having beaten them head-to-head.

Can the Eagles still be a playoff team in 2015? Possibly. However, it’s hard to envision Philadelphia really competing with the likes of the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals in the NFC route to the Super Bowl.

Winston’s rookie season has been about more than statistics. With the Buccaneers facing Indianapolis, Atlanta and New Orleans (two home games and one in a dome) the next three weeks, Winston could make for an interesting streamer.

Byron Maxwell had the coverage on top of the play, and like his thoughts on the team’s performance as a whole, was flabbergasted how he didn’t make the interception.

“A successful day is just protecting the football for me”.

We’ve seen such situations go any number of ways.

Though Sanchez admitted that he was upset, he also tried to dismiss the spat as nothing important. “Well, we’re relevant again”. He said, per Florio.

Sanchez got them into a rhythm with handoffs to Murray and, it should be noted, quick ball placements by referee Allen. The Eagles could win, certainly, but you might not want to bet the mortgage money on it. We’re trying to get back on track. Was it the Bucs’ successful running attack that enabled Winston’s excellence? Austin was the target on the interception thrown by Sanchez in the end zone late in the fourth quarter.

Coach Chip Kelly mentioned the struggle to contain Martin as one of the major factors in the blowout.

So much for the defense never resting. “No, it wasn’t necessarily a coming out party, but it was a great game“. While Kelly will likely be back next season regardless, the final six games will go a long way in showing if the players are still on board with him. A 10-6 win over Dallas last week was their third in five games, and a victory in Philadelphia would push the Bucs to.

But, in a way, I’m kind of happy the Eagles lost the way they did. There’s no question that he is a good, coach as back-to-back 10-6 seasons aren’t an easy thing to do in today’s league. Kelly’s radical game-changing offense? It’s producing middle-of-the-pack (ranked 15th in scoring) results.

The Eagles contributed to the Bucs’ success with a poor tackling performance and what seemed to be an increasingly more listless effort as the game progressed. Now, the contest looks even worse.

“I’m not sure exactly what happened”, DeMeco Ryans said. It’s the same thing they were doing all game. We had big guys step up when we needed them to step up.

Kelly, for one, noticed.

Here’s what we learned from the Philadelphia Eagles’ loss to the Buccaneers. The Eagles had been 5-0 all-time vs. rookie quarterbacks who were taken No. 1.

Then, it was Vinatieri who won it for the Colts (5-5), as he’s done so many times in his brilliant career. That was Marcus Smith, who has done zilch since being picked. It was a given that the offense would remain a grind with Mark Sanchez starting at quarterback and no Ryan Mathews to boost the running game.

If Kelly can’t recognize the right talent for his own system, then the Eagles have every right to be skeptical about his team-building acumen. It was his sixth career multi-sack game, which ties him with David Logan (six from 1979-1986) for fifth-most in team history.
