Apart from Search, Translate, and Waze, you need a Gmail account to see the changes in your services, and Google Apps for Work, Education or Government accounts aren’t supported. While many will be debating which side of the Force they will choose, we’re more curious to find out how much money Google is making with this little stunt.
After the short promo, Harrison Ford, who will reprise his role as Hans Solo in the movie, introduced vocal quintet Pentatonix, who led a harmony to the medley of the Stars Wars score.
According to Wired, the team worked on a list of the things they wanted the new Star Wars films to express, including a sense of beginning, urgency, but mixed with humor. The new version includes a Star Wars watch face for Android Wear. “George (Lucas) knows, I know and now I’m gonna tell you, and if it leaks, we’ll know it’s you, ‘” he adds. On Maps, your location marker becomes either a TIE fighter or an X-Wing. YouTube’s seek and volume controls take on a lightsaber-like glow.
What makes this even more awesome is that once the Force has been chosen, all of your Google products will be themed within a few hours.
Sorry all you rebel scum, but I’ve joined the Dark side. We’ve got more coming between now and opening night – the Millennium Falcon in all its (virtual reality) glory included, so stay tuned.
The Google Star Wars page also features a balance counter showing how many people have chosen each side.
