As well as immersing fans in the app, four custom Google Cardboard headsets featuring Star Wars imagery will be exclusively available in Verizon stores from 2nd December.

In Gmail, a blue or red Lightsaber replaces the standard loading bar and the background transforms into Light or Dark Side images.

The app, which has been developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm and Disney, lets you theme Google’s suite of applications across your devices.

Google Maps – Easily locate where you are at with an X-Wing or TIE Fighter symbol.

Directed by JJ Abrams and starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in United Kingdom cinemas from December 17, and released in the USA on December 18. Most major Google apps and services are included; besides the ones mentioned above, you can Star Wars-ify Google’s home screen, Maps, Waze, Calendar, Google Translate and several others.

Filmmaker J.J. Abrams still has “six very small, but important” finishing touches to make on Star Wars: Episode Vii – The Force Awakens less than three weeks ahead of its release. Google’s effort, however, feels like it’s directly aimed at those who already are fans, with Easter eggs and clever references sprinkled throughout the user experience. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” takes 30 years after the downfall of the Galactic Empire where Han Solo and his group will face Kylo Ren and his band of Stormtroopers.
