University of Iowa student wins Rhodes scholarship

Hebert, a biological basis of behaviormajor from Pittsburgh, is the first Penn student to win one of the American scholarships since 2009 College graduate Sarah-Jane Littleford.

Mediate will be one of 32 Scholars set to begin their studies at Oxford in October of next year, selected from a pool of 869 applicants, the release stated.

MI State University senior Sarah Kovan, from Okemos, has been named a 2016 Rhodes Scholar.

YSU is only the fourth public university in OH to have a student win the award in the Rhodes’ 112-year history, joining Ohio State University, Miami University and the University of Cincinnati. She will pursue master degrees in English and American studies and in medieval studies at Oxford. “I kept taking all the eye contact all the committee members were giving me as confirmation that he actually said my name”. Rhodes Scholars are chosen in a two-stage process.

Ding is also studying political science and Chinese at the University of Iowa. “Sarah represents the very best of MSU students and we wish her every success in her future endeavors”.

Her academic research includes evaluating options for economic development in Sri Lanka for low-income women, the Rhodes Trust said. At home, she has provided bedside care to local hospice patients.

She called the finalists “11 of most brilliant and interesting people I’ve ever met” and said the students bonded while awaiting a decision.
