League unveils three-on-three format for All-Star Game
We haven’t had an All-Star Game there before…. They were down in Canada, too. Don’t forget that the 2013 All-Star Game was wiped out by the lockout and there was no game in 2014 due to the Olympics. But with this season’s 3-on-3 mini tournament, that’s changing, and it could be just the beginning.

It’s already clear this new format is going to leave out a lot of worthy players.
The all-star game has been deemed by many as nearly unwatchable. “I think it’s a good thing and hopefully makes the game more exciting”. So there will be Team Atlantic, Team Metropolitan, Team Central and Team Pacific. There will be four teams, each representing one of the NHL’s four divisions – the Metropolitan, Atlantic, Central and Pacific. The winners meet in a 20-minute championship for the money.
Six forwards, three defensemen and two goaltenders will be selected from each division. It will be interesting to see if their objections – should they make the All-Star team – reach all the way to the league’s annual limp-wristed battle of the stars. This should allow for fans of every team to have interest in the game, unlike in previous years where certain teams may have been greatly under-represented, or not represented at all.
Coaches will come from each of the four first-place teams as of January 9, 2016. What is it, 20-minute long games? That breaks down to more than $90,900 per player.
Gone is also the entertaining fantasy draft, featuring sauced up National Hockey League players picking their friends and providing plenty of candid moments. “At a few point during the process, I certainly was operating under the impression that it was probably going to be too aggressive a change to get done this year, but when we knew how badly the Nashville club was interested in it, we pushed it and expedited it and ultimately got the union to be receptive to it and we got it done”. Apparently they didn’t enjoy giving fans a glimpse of their personality?
According to reports, the popular Friday night player draft will be scrapped. We’ll miss it, though. Whether it was Alex Ovechkin’s ridiculous bid to win a vehicle or the hidden libations that fueled Alex Ovechkin’s bid to win a auto, the entire thing was a delight.
This sounds like it will basically be the same.
Hold that weekend open just in case, Henrik. (The goal is to) try and mix it up so there is a few competitiveness, there’s a few fun, but guys are playing for keeps. Guys are going to get exhausted real quick. (Including, most terrifyingly, about 87,000 for “Sidney Crosby NSFW.”) Highlights, box scores, interviews and live games are available within mere moments. That seems to be what the league is banking on.
“As hosts, we’re really excited about coming to Nashville”. The winning division from each side will then play a final game to determine an All-Star Game champion. 895 save percentage. The former Kings prospect has somehow won in just three of his last 23 appearances.
An “all-star game”, therefore, really MEANT something back then. I was also eight. It’s going to be cool to see how it plays out.
But will it work in an exhibition, where players are mostly trying not to get injured, and generally don’t feel like exhausting themselves unduly? “I think the All-Star Game is a great thing, but everybody gets bored from the (traditional version of the) game because there’s no intensity”. That’s why the NHL Players’ Association and league jointly agreed to try this format as a one-year experiment.

So the league loves All-Star weekend, and the weekend loves the league back.
