Texans backup quarterback T.J. Yates tossed two touchdown passes to Hopkins and the Houston Texans unleashed a versatile offensive attack in their 24-17 win over the NY Jets at NRG Stadium. The Texans are talented at getting to the quarterback, it always helps when you have J.J. Watt leading that charge.

However, Bill O’Brien’s men used a trick play to forge ahead once again as wide receiver Cecil Shorts took a handoff from Yates and lofted the ball to Alfred Blue down the sideline for a 21-yard score. For the first time in his career, a pass was thrown to him that he did not catch when Calvin Pryor broke up the throw in the first quarter. So according to this formula, that one play took the game from a coin toss to Houston having a two out of three chance. This week the Texans will host the NY Jets as 3-point underdogs in the game which will air at NOON CT on CBS.
I just had hoped that we’d make it respectable but obviously, they exceeded my expectations. The next shot was more successful and turned into a 61-yard touchdown that put the Texans up 10-3 in the second quarter.

Hopkins also became the first player in Texans team history to reach 1,000 receiving yards in the first 10 games of a season.

That gambit enabled the Texans to feature Hopkins, who produced five catches for 118 yards. The already brutal ground game gets a rough matchup as well, as the Jets’ defensive front has been nasty at home, allowing just 3.7 yards per carry and one touchdown on 136 attempts. Their defense, led by Brandon Marshall, Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware (should he return from a back injury) is among the best in the N.F.L., and if Osweiler can find a way to get the ball to Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Vernon Davis, they know how to get it into the end zone. Said his buddy Stu Novick: “We gotta win this game if we want to be in the mix”. NY got a boost on that drive from a 44-yard pass interference penalty on Quintin Demps. The Jets were losing their grip on this game.

Against the last three opponents, the Texans have come up with 13 sacks, seven turnovers, and most importantly three consecutive wins.
