The Denver Broncos couldn’t have asked for more from Brock Osweiler

The Denver Broncos had to be concerned as they traveled to Chicago to face the Bears with unproven Brock Osweiler under center for a hurt and ineffective Peyton Manning. What the commercial didn’t show was the Sun start to set, the street lights come on and Jimmy’s mothers calling him to go home.

Unfortunately though, it looks more and more likley that Manning’s years of physical deterioration have finally reached a level that even the intelligence of one of football’s greatest virtuosos can’t compensate for anymore.

Osweiler had a good game in his first career start.

The Bears moved the ball down the field thanks to penalties on Shane Ray and Brandon Marshall, and then Marquess Wilson made a big play to gain 30 yards and get the Bears into scoring range. Jay Cutler was sacked to end Chicago’s second drive of the game, and Willie Young and Bruce Gaston each picked up sacks against Osweiler as the Broncos were forced to punt the ball away. A 250 yard passing day, coupled with 2 TD passes and a quarterback rating of 127.1, will help your professional development.

Confusion can spread when a run game is working so well against you.

While the reports haven’t been confirmed, it’s hard to imagine Manning finding a team willing to take a risk on him next season considering his recent poor play and the numerous injury concerns. The spinal fusion of Manning was still under evaluation during this time.

But Kubiak was non-committal when asked if Osweiler would even start will start next week against the New England Patriots. The Bears played the entire game without running back Matt Forte (knee) for the third consecutive game and without wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (groin, shoulder) who returned from his injuries earlier in the season but now has missed five games this year….

Kubiak, though, saved his praise for Osweiler.

“We’re all in on the Patriots”, Kubiak said. “And hopefully they’ll get a win today”. We’ve got a few guys on this team that we’re trying to get healthy, so that’s important.

“I can just tell you for there to be any rumors or anything he said that his mindset is anywhere other than getting healthy and helping this football team, I can tell you is totally false”, Kubiak said. “He can do everything”.

There has been a lot of debate if the Broncos are better off with Osweiler, considering Manning’s struggles this year, or if their best chance to win a Super Bowl still ultimately rests with Manning’s ability to lead them there.

The Broncos went for it and they would have scored a touchdown as the left side of the offensive line powered a deep surge on the Bears’ defensive front.
