Both clubs are hoping to break into the top four this season and know that a three points here today would help to keep the pressure on the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and even Leicester City, which now leads the EPL standings.

“Every year you have to have the feeling to achieve the Champions League otherwise we should stop playing football”.

“It is step by step. It is a question of taking it step by step and seeing where we are in five months”.

Minutes after the interval, however, they were able to make the game safe as Kane’s shot found the back of the net via a deflection off Winston Reid and Kyle Walker’s wonderful curling effort in the 83rd minute rounded off an impressive result.

But he scored. It came as Heung-Min Son pushed the ball inside to Alli, whose shot was blocked, but it ricocheted to Kane who rolled Carl Jenkinson, easily, to then fire high into the roof of the net. “Fantastic, fantastic”, Pochettino said. “In particular, I think you can feel from the touchline the players believe in the way we play”.

“It was a shock and we deserved to be beaten”, he said.

“The players deserve first credit because it is always up to them to take the tools we provide”. The only blemish for them was a booking for Dele Alli, who was quickly substituted by a concerned Pochettino, to a standing ovation, after a clash with Mark Noble.
