Cardinals 34, Bengals 31

Larsen was sure the Bengals had done something illegal, but was he afraid the officials wouldn’t see it that way and throw the flag on the Cardinals?

But coach Bruce Arians gave his team mixed reviews for Sunday night’s 34-31 home victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

With the score tied 31-31, Carson Palmer stood under center waiting to spike the ball and stop the clock with seconds remaining, setting up what would have been a 45-yard field goal attempt to win the game.

So instead of a 46-yard try, the penalty moved the ball from the 28 to the 14.

Arizona Cardinals free safety Tyrann Mathieu (32) intercepts a pass against the Seattle Seahawks during the third quarter at CenturyLink Field. Last week I went 4-2 to run the season record to 48-18, but this hot weather in SoCal may impact my judgment.

While most teams would easily fold after tasting the first defeat of the season, do not expect the Bengals to do the same as losing their first match may actually alleviate the load they have for a ideal run. “I don’t know if “set” sounds like ‘hike” to them.

To make matters worse, it came against a player in Palmer who is quite close to the franchise in a game the league flexed to the national spotlight, nearly as if giving the Bengals a chance to turn the proverbial corner on a silver platter. “He wasn’t cracking too many smiles this week”. That was the name of the game.

If the Bengals and Arizona Cardinals played that game in the Super Bowl, we’d be good with it, right?

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – A freaky penalty made the ending of Arizona’s wild 34-31 victory over Cincinnati even crazier. “We have plenty of good play in us, and we have to find the consistency that allows us to get the game done”.

Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton bounced back from a subpar performance the previous week against Houston to lead the Bengals back after Arizona took leads of 28-14 and 31-21 in the second half.

Arizona answered with a 10-play, 80-yard drive to tie the game midway through the second quarter. Without a penalty, the Cardinals would have had to kick a 47-yard field goal.

Palmer, who had said during the week that this one against his former team was “not just another game”, completed 20 of 31 passes for 317 yards. Dalton was the Bengals’ leading rusher at halftime with 30 yards.

Through the first two quarters of Sunday night’s game, it seemed as though Palmer didn’t understand that he no longer plays for the Bengals.

Cincinnati running back Giovani Bernard caught eight passes for 128 yards. This time it was Wright who got to Palmer and knocked the ball away, and linebacker Bobby Wagner picked it up and ran it 22 yards for a touchdown.

Peko claims he merely repeated the phrase “get set” to his teammates.

Lewis repeatedly declined to discuss the penalty on Monday, a day after he called it a “phantom call” and “kind of ridiculous”.

“I trust what our player said”.

“It’s disappointing to get back into the football game and then they drive down the field there”. Directing the NFL’s No.1-ranked offense in a season, Palmer is second to Tom Brady in touchdown passes (23) and quarterback rating (108). “I think we got in a few situations in the second half where we just had to abandon it”.
