The Florida State Seminoles are coming off their first loss of the season on Friday to Hofstra, 82-77. Brian Bernardi led the team in scoring by accounting for 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting. The defense allowed 44 points in the paint, and 52 points combined to South Carolina’s starting forwards. Not making mistakes with the ball is a staple of the SC offense, which averages just 10.3 turnovers per game. The McDonald’s All-American recruit is now shooting nearly 60 percent (14 of 24) from 3-point land in his first five collegiate appearances, and either he or Bacon has led the Seminoles in scoring in each game so far this season. This shaped up to be the first real trap game of FSU’s season and they were not up for the test, falling to a scrappy mid-major that many have projected to win the Colonial Conference and go to the NCAA tournament.

Hamilton had tied the game with a basket and Billy Garrett’s 3-pointer gave the Blue Demons a 79-76 advantage. The Gamecocks shot 54 percent from the field, Sindarius Thornwell and P.J. Dozier joining the three seniors in double figures, as Hofstra couldn’t counter the height and transition. It would ultimately be a 12-0 run for Carolina, as Hofstra would go 4:22 without a point to see its upset attempt wilt down the stretch. Ohio, which fell to 3-2 with the loss, got a nice game from its own star freshman, guard Jordan Dartis, who led the Bobcats with 22 points. Hofstra ranks 37th in defensive rebounds. SC is undefeated this season (1-0) when its TO% is 18.0% or higher.
