P. Muralidhar Rao, BJP general secretary in charge of Tamil Nadu, said he was not aware of the resignation and added that he had never met Ibrahim.

Ibrahim said the knowledge centre was not being set up despite repeated requests. This act of BJP Government is disheartening to the public, and hence I would like inform through this Press Release that the demand and suggestion I have received from the students & young communities, public and the people who have deepest affection towards Dr APJ Abdul Kalam forced me to resign from the leadership position and basic membership of BJP. Following Kalam’s death on July 27 this year, Aurangzeb Road in the VIP zone was renamed after him, kicking up a storm which was fuelled further when minister Sharma remarked the former President was a nationalist “despite being a Muslim”.
