Clinton touts $6000 federal tax credit for family caregivers
In a mostly unnoticed bit of political re-branding, the Clinton campaign has informed the Washington Post to now call her “Hillary Clinton”, instead of the “Hillary Rodham Clinton” moniker she has used since 1993.

Clinton has spoken out forcefully for the concept of paid family leave but not embraced the particular measure because it violates a campaign pledge not to raise taxes on families making less than $250,000.
Sanders, in particular, has gained attention for proposing an expansion of Social Security.
In addition to the tax benefit, Clinton will propose a change to Social Security that provides credit for people who leave the work force to care for family members.
During the meeting held at a middle school and attended by more than 400 people, Clinton stressed there are many who have to take time off from work to offer care. The credit would be available to those whose out-of-pocket expenses reach $6,000, with the value of the credit phasing out for upper-income families, reported the Wall Street Journal.
This proposal is part of a series of tax cuts that Clinton plans to roll out in the coming weeks.
The former secretary of state says that she is the only primary candidate committed to not raising taxes on average workers. The maximum annual tax benefit would be $1,200, according to her campaign. Last week, she put forward a tax credit for families and individuals facing major health care costs. Plus, a significant amount of her supporters have already made up their minds about voting for the former first lady, while more of Sanders backers say their opinion could change over the course of time.
Instead, she’s vowed to defend the president’s health care plan and encourage Republican governors, like Gov. Bill Haslam in Tennessee, to expand their states’ Medicaid program under the federal law.
In New Hampshire, support for Clinton has increased among seniors and she now has the edge over Sanders among this group.
“You know your story is so incredibly moving and it’s also a story for so many people, that’s what I keep finding, everywhere I go”, Clinton told Thompson in a video of the exchange provided by the campaign.
“It’s too late for tentative half-steps that sound Republican-lite.”

In the two months since their encounter, Clinton has mentioned Thompson in almost every major speech – and she speaks frequently about the “caregiver crisis” facing those who look after loved ones full-time without enough financial support. The tax breaks to caregivers will “cost hardworking Americans billions”, he said. However, their track record hasn’t been promising, say experts.
