When Gold said he didn’t have any money, the suspect “became enraged” and shot Gold in the stomach, in a terrifying moment caught on camera.

Euric Cain’s SUV was found Sunday morning, police said. He was listed in guarded condition during the most recent update.

Tulane spokesman Mike Strecker released a statement Monday (Nov. 23) on behalf of the Gold family, regarding Peter Gold’s condition.

New Orleans police announced Monday that they had arrested Euric Cain and charged him with attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping and armed robbery. The female victim was treated then released.

Chief Harrison said that after discovering the getaway auto on 2200 block of John Raphael Place, detectives subsequently named Cain as the primary suspect.

The suspect in the shooting in the Lower Garden District that injured a Tulane medical student has been apprehended.

“Peter is really one of the nicest people you would ever meet, and he is an awesome student, I’m sure, even in med school”, she said. Police urged the public to help identify the shooter, who police said should be considered armed and unsafe.

That’s in addition to a $10,000 reward offered by Tulane University.

“Now he will likely spend the rest of his life in jail, as he should”, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said of Cain during a news conference this afternoon.

Those who knew Peter Gold said they were not surprised to see him risk his life to help someone in danger.

According to police, the suspect was dragging the woman to his parked SUV when Peter Gold tried to help her. “We again ask that everyone respect our family’s need for privacy during this hard time”.

Mr Gold is a fourth-year medical student at nearby Tulane University.
