GECF summit opens in Tehran
Thanking the participants to the Summit, President continued, “Heads of 9 states’ participation shows that all countries are seeking establishment of more communication with the region and the whole world, especially Iran”.

On Sunday, President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Iran to participate in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, (GECF) summit on Monday, according to Premium Times.
It added that Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Minister of Petroleum of Iran, was also appointed as Alternate President for the same period.
A joint declaration will be adopted following the forum, which will reflect the principled positions of the GECF member states on priority issues of cooperation in the gas sphere.
President Buhari being received by the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran H.E. Hassan Rouhani as he arrived at the Valenjak Conference Centre Tehran for the 3rd Summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Tehran Iran on November 23.
He also spoke about the recent decision of Azerbaijan to become a member of the GECF and said the neighboring country’s role in gas sector is significant.
Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela are the forum’s main members. Iraq, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman and Peru participate in it as observers. It is considering to build a large pipeline network that would connect its huge South Pars gas field with European customers.
The current OPEC quota stands at 30 million barrels of crude a day.

It is expected that 2016 will be a tough year for the producer group when global sanctions on Iran are expected to ease, allowing it to boost oil production and exports. In return, Tehran agreed to long-term curbs on its nuclear programme in a landmark July deal with the so-called P5+1 powers.
