A deadly house fire that claimed the lives of three small children has prompted firefighters to send out a warning to the community. “You look at this event and it’s sad, it’s sorrowful, it’s terribly tragic”.
One of the residents, 16-year-old Viances Hutcherson Jr., says the gas to the dwelling was off, and that the family was using an electric oven and space heaters to warm the home. “When you suffer the loss of a small child…it really affects you”.
Jenkerson also addressed the dangers of using secondary heat sources such as space heaters and stoves.
The fire occurred just after 4:00 a.m. near Walnut Park in north St. Louis, reports CBS affiliate KMOV. The department offers free smoke detectors and installation services to residents in St. Louis and surrounding areas.
