Star Wars comes to Google – choose your side
Disney and Google announced today that they have partnered up for “Extraordinary Interactive Experiences to Celebrate Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, starting with a skin for your Gmail account.

In a post announcing the promo on the company’s blog, VP of Product Management Clay Bavor said there are lots of Star Wars fans like him in the Google galaxy.
If you had the choice, would you choose evil and hatred on the Dark Side? It may take a few hours for “the Force to awaken within all your apps”. The Star Wars-centric material – which differs depending on whether the Light or Dark Side is chosen, so pick wisely – will be available until February. After choosing the Dark side, the background for my Gmail account changed to reflect my path, though there’s quite a bit more to enjoy than just glorified wallpapers and the such. Even more mundane apps like Gmail get in on the fun with a re-skin that adds Star Wars themes are as a backdrop and Lightsaber loading bars. The Google Maps app will show your location not with the traditional arrow character, but with a Rebellion X-wing spacecraft or opposing TIE fighter.
Google is excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and has launched a special promotional campaign to make sure we’re all aware the new movie is now less than a month away from release.
Google also lists that changes will come to Chrome, Inbox, Google Now, Search, Translate, Waze, and YouTube.
Google Calendar will also automatically import “Star Wars events” in, “so you can keep up with the big events”.

“We’ve got more coming between now and opening night – the Millennium Falcon in all its (virtual reality) glory included, so stay tuned”, Mr. Bavor said.
