Lowly San Francisco 49ers help sputtering Seahawks regain a few traction

Where would the Seattle Seahawks be this season without the San Francisco 49ers on their schedule, twice?

The teams settled for field goals in the third quarter. Steven Hauschka missed the extra point off the outside of the right upright, his first true miss in 40 points-after-touchdown.

Running back Thomas Rawls #34 of the Seattle Seahawks reacts after scoring a touchdown in the first quarter against the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field on November 22, 2015 in Seattle, Washington. Linebacker Navorro Bowman said Dorsey’s absence “really hurt” the 49ers in run defense.

Gabbert will be the 49ers starter going forward after the decision to place Kaepernick on injured reserve on Saturday.

His first score came on a 2-yard run that capped Seattle’s second possession.

But up until the point Gabbert hit Vance McDonald on a 19-yard touchdown, the 49ers had done nothing offensively and created far too big a hole to overcome on the road. Though he finished the first half 12 of 17 for 101 yards, his incompletions missed their targets, lowlighted by a first half throw on a post route to Torrey Smith that seemed to be intended for Richard Sherman of the Seahawks.

Lynch had battle a number of injuries this season.

Rawls completed the job of dissecting the 49ers defense. But San Francisco still couldn’t slow him. He has that mentality about him, he’s a very aggressive kid, and a very aggressive style of runner, and I think that’s probably what we like the most about him. “We have a chance to have a good team, we still do”.

“We were pretty excited about the game going in”. The Seahawks were also missing their star running back, Mashawn Lynch, and the 49ers sent rookie Thomas Rawls to rush 30 times totaling 209 yards.

Rawls’ romp with Lynch in sweats was the second-best in Seahawks’ history only to Shaun Alexander’s 266 yards through a rain storm against Oakland in 2001 at Husky Stadium. He’s just the third running back in the National Football League this season to go over 200 yards, joining Doug Martin (235) and Adrian Peterson (203). The rookie receiver is known for his speed, but he also showed that he’s not afraid of contact when he pushed his way into the end zone over defenders for his second touchdown. His other score came on a 31-yard catch-and-run from quarterback Russell Wilson. “It’s an abdominal issue, there’s a lot going on there, so we’ve got to see what that all means”. “We rested him all week, and we rehabbed him all week long, and really the first time we took a real look at it was out here in pregame, and he just couldn’t get going”.

On the day the S.F. organization announced former starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick would undergo season-ending surgery on his left shoulder, new starting QB Blaine Gabbert gave a spirited effort. Tomsula said after the game that there is fear that Dorsey may have suffered an ACL tear, but said he couldn’t confirm an until Dorsey has an MRI Monday in the Bay Area.
