The National Football League has announced that Carolina Panthers backup defensive end Wes Horton has been suspended without pay for the team’s next four games for violating the National Football League policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Horton, who started two games this season, will be eligible to play in the Week 16 game at Atlanta on December 27.
The 25-year-old has started two games this season, tallying eight tackles and a sack.
In addition to Horton, wide receiver Stephen Hill was also suspended one game without pay for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He was cut by the team after Week 3 and then brought back for Week 5.
Horton has been on the Panthers for three seasons now, and has not yet established himself as a truly dominant defender.

With defensive end Charles Johnson’s anticipated return this week, Horton was not expected to get as much playing time going forward. The Panthers placed Hill on IR after he suffered season-ending knee injury in training camp. His suspension also begins immediately.
